Photoelectron spectroscopic studies of the higher alcohols

Abstract

The He I photoelectron spectra of some of the higher alcohols have been measured. These include the propyl, butyl and two pentyl alcohols. The time-averaged spectra are presented in an intensity-corrected form, and with the assistance of SPINDO calculations a reasonable assignment of the ionization potentials is given. The relatively noise-free spectra are of sufficient quality to discern overlapping bands and the measured band intensities correlate well with the density of states resulting from the SPINDO calculations.
