Rates of N-methylation of N-arylpyrazoles

Abstract

The rates of quaternization of the title compounds with dimethyl sulphate in sulpholane are reported and compared with results for N- arylimidazoles. A greater effect of substituents on rate is observed for the pyrazoles and evidence for the occurrence of steric effects is presented.
