Abstract
It is proposed from flash photolysis experiments that, on photolysis, coniferyl alcohol gives a free radical by a monophotonic process and this radical either couples or undergoes an acid-catalysed water elimination to yield a quinone methide. The possible significance of this in terms of lignification is discussed.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9750825
