Abstract

Anhydrous aluminium chloride was discovered to be the most active catalyst for the phosphorylation of phenols, and was specially useful in the synthesis of bisaryl phosphorochloridates. The aryl phosphorodichloridate was prepared by reaction of the phenol with phosphorus oxychloride using the less reactive potassium chloride catalyst, followed by treatment of the resultant phosphorochloridate with another phenol in the presence of aluminium chloride catalyst. The phosphorochloridates were characterized by conversion into N- substituted phosphoramidates and phosphorohydrazides.
