Irradiated betaine hydrochloride: the free radical, N(CH3)3+

Abstract

The e.s.r. parameters for the free radical, N(CH3)3+, trapped in monoclinic single crystals of γ-irradiated betaine hydrochloride, have been investigated. The hyperfine splittings have isotropic values, ANiso = 2.26 mT and Aβ-Hiso = 2.79 mT, and the isotropic value of the g-tensor is 2.0039. A critical analysis of previously reported data on this free radical is presented.
