Abstract
Several approaches to the synthesis of β-hydroxyporphyrins are described. These tetrapyrroles are stable only as their dication; under basic or neutral conditions they rapidly oxidize to give a mixture of products. The structure of one of these oxidation products has been investigated. Ester and ether derivatives of the 19-hydroxyporphyrins are stable and have been prepared.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9722217
