Abstract
The synthesis of O-ethyl thioacetothioacetate and its zinc(11), cadmium(11), and mercury(11) complexes are described, together with the zinc(11) and cadmium(11) complexes of ethyl thioaoetoacetate. Infrared, visible, ultraviolet, nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectra have been used to characterize the free ligand and the new complexes. The free dithio-ligand is shown to exist in a thioenol form with the thiol function located at the aceto grouping. The tetrahedral 1,3-dithio complex, bis(O-ethyl thioaoetothioacetate)zinc(11) is discussed.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9720257
