Cobalt(II) gluconate complexes

Abstract

A study of the cobalt(11) gluconate system has confirmed the existence of an unstable cationic species [Co(C₆H₁₁0₇)]⁺, in solutions of pH <7.5, and two insoluble compounds, CO₂(OH)₃(C₆H₁₁O₇),xH₂O and CO₃(C₆H₁₀O₇)2(OH)₂,2H₂O, formed in solutions of pH 7.5-9.5. Above pH 9.5 an anionic species, which is subject to rapid auto-oxidation, exists in solution.
