Abstract
Complexes of 2-methyl-8-methylthioquinoline (mmtq) have been obtained with cobalt(11), nicke1(11), palladium(11), platinum(11), copper(1), copper(11), silver(1), and gold(111). The 2-methyl group of mmtq causes severe steric hindrance to other ligands in a square plane. The complex AuCl3 mmtq contains five-coordinate gold(111). Only one bis-chelated complex, Pd mrntq2(ClO4)2,H2O, was isolated and it is possible that the metal atom in this complex is five-coordinate also. The solid reflectance spectra of the compounds MX2 mmtq (M = Co, Ni, Cu; X = Cl, Br) and CoI2 mmtq indicate a pseudo-tetrahedral configuration about the metal atom in these complexes.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9680339
