Abstract
Using the techniques of d.c. polarography and nuclear quadrupole resonance spectroscopy the correlation between the half-step reduction potential and the corresponding nuclear quadrupole interaction frequency of a number of organic iodo compounds is investigated. The expected trend of the half-step potentials of the substituted iodobenzenes with the degree of interaction, by the substituent groups, on the iodine atom is confirmed. The trend is such that positive or negative deviations from the half-step potential of iodobenzene are indicative of a corresponding decrease or increase in the electron density on the iodine atom.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9680001
