The infrared spectra of aryl azides

Abstract

The fundamental and first-overtone azido antisymmetric stretching frequencies of 19 aryl azides have been measured. It is demonstrated that the splitting of the _V(N_S)_as band is not due to the presence of conformers in solution, and probably does not involve ?hot? bands. Fermi resonance explanations of the splitting are suggested.
