Abstract
On the assumption that the parachor, P, and the Lorentz-Lorenz refraction, R, are empirically related by the equation, P = aRn+b, where a, b, and n are constants, corresponding values of P and R for covalent bonds between the elements of Groups IVB-VIIB and aliphatic carbon were introduced, and the constants evaluated by means of a least-squares calculation on the I.B.M. 1620 computer. In the present instance, the resulting equations confirm many of the reported experimental refractions, and they have also been employed for the calculation of R for several bonds hitherto unreported.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9662001
