Association of alklurea molecules in solution

Abstract

The association of n-propyl and n-butylurea in chloroform has been studied together with NN-dimethylurea, NN-di-n-butylurea, and acetamide. The infrared spectra indicate that association occurs preferentially between the carbonyl and primary amide NH₂ groups and that cyclic dimers are formed in the first instance.
