Molecular polarizability. The optical anisotropies of certain aromatic molecules as solutes

Abstract

Estimates of the molecular optical anisotropies (relative to benzene as standard) have been made from electric birefringence data for a large number of aromatic compounds. The values so derived are shown to be generally in accord with those determined directly from light scattering techniques.
