Abstract
The infrared spectrum of cyanothioformamide and its deuterated derivative have been studied over the range 4000-280 cm-1 to assist the interpretation of the spectra of thioamides. Evaluation of all data now suggests the emergence of a pattern of bands which depends on the nature of the substituent at the central atom of the NCS group in primary thioamides. The influence of solvents on frequency indicates that the stretching motion of the thiocarbonyl group makes a major contribution to the band at 957 cm-1 in this compound.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9650129
