Azaindoles. I. Introduction

Abstract

Unsuccessful attempts have been made to extend the Reissert indole synthesis and the Harley-Mason synthesis to the preparation of 5-azaindoles. Satisfactory methods for the preparation of 4-anilinonicotinic acid 1-oxide and 4-methylaminonicotinic acid 1-oxide have been devised.
