Abstract
The reactions of triphenylaluminium and its etherate with benzophenone, acetophenone, ethyl benzoate, and benzaldehyde have been studied. The stoicheiometry of reaction and the effect of coordinating base were investigated. Diphenylaluminium chloride and phenylaluminium dichloride as compared with triphenylaluminium show an enhanced tendency to form stable complexes with carbonyl compounds. Results obtained with benzaldehyde are relevant to the mechanism of the Meerwein-Pondorf-Verley and Oppenauer reactions.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9630807
