The Preparation and Resolution of the Bis(oxalato)-2,2'-bipyridinechromate(III) and Bis(oxalato)-1,10-phenanthrolinechromate(III) Ions

Abstract

The new mixed complexes, potassium bis(oxa1ato)-2,2?-bipyridinechromate(II) and potassium bis(oxalato)-1,10-phenanthrolinechromate(III) have been prepared by the reaction of the monobipyridine or phenanthroline chromium(III) complex with potassium oxalate in aqueous formamide solution. Both complexes have been resolved using optically active oxalatobis(ethylenediamine)cobalt(III) chloride. The optical forms were observed to racemize in solution.
