Abstract
The production of transmission-like multiple beam " Fizeau " fringes in reflection, which have high contrast and visibility, is described. These fringes arise, not essentially from the combination of particular reflectivities of the two plates of the interferometer system, but from the elimination of certain rays in the reflected system which differ in phase from other rays by π. The theory of their origin and the experimental conditions required for their production is given. Fringes of equal chromatic order with similar characteristics can also be produced. An application of these fringes to vibration measurement is described where they had important advantages over normal transmission and reflection fringes.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9510117
