Franck D’Agosto studied chemistry at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie in Mulhouse (France). He completed a Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry at the UMR CNRS – bioMérieux (Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France) before joining the University of Sydney (Australia) for a postdoctoral stay in the Key Centre for Polymer Colloids. Since 2002, he has been a researcher at CNRS in the Chemistry and Process of Polymerization Team in the C2P2 laboratory (Lyon, France). His research interests focus essentially on the use of different polymerization chemistries – such as catalytic and controlled free radical polymerizations – either performed in solution or in dispersed media.

Christophe Boisson studied chemistry at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie in Montpellier (France), graduating in 1992. After completed a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Paris-Sud 11 (Orsay), he joined in 1996 the group of Dr Roger Spitz at CPE-Lyon as ‘Chargé de Recherche’ from the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). In 2008, he was appointed ‘Directeur de Recherche’ from CNRS in the Chemistry and Polymerization Processes team of the laboratory C2P2 (UMR 5265) at CPE-Lyon. His research interests are on the development of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalyst systems for the polymerization of olefins.

Abstract

The present paper highlights analogies between one of the most efficient control radical polymerization techniques namely the reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer process, and the catalyzed polyethylene chain growth, the only technique that can controlled olefins polymerization through coordination chemistry under catalytic conditions.
