A Novel Sulfonoglycolipid from the Brown Alga Dictyota ciliolata

Abstract

A compound active in the constitutive nitric oxide synthetase assay, the sulfonoglycolipid 3-O-(6′-deoxy-6′-sulfo-α-D-glucopyranosyl)-1-O-oleoyl-2-O-palmitoylglycerol, was isolated from the brown alga Dictyota ciliolata. This compound was characterized by several spectroscopic techniques and is the first reported occurrence of this class of compound in brown algae.
