Abstract
When a young, expanding leaf of soybean is darkened, translocation into it of labelled assimilate from the leaf below is depressed. The darkened leaf does not grow to full size and abscissas prematurely. The same effect is shown if the young leaf is developing in light but deprived of carbon dioxide. The growth rate of the next younger leaf developing at the apex is markedly increased in both cases.https://doi.org/10.1071/BI9640412
