Fungal Cellulases IX. Growth of Stachybotrys Atra on Cellulose and Production of a b-Glucosidase Hydrolysing Cellobiose

Abstract

The growth of Stachybotrys atra on an improved Waksman-Carey medium containing cellulose as the sole carbon source is described. Under these conditions the organism produces an extracellular cellulase and an intracellular ,8-glucosidase which is vcapable of hydrolysing cellobiose. Some properties of this ,8-glucosidase are discussed.
