Abstract
The asilid tribe Chrysopogonini is revised. An account is given of adult external anatomy, and the taxonomic value of adult characters is discussed. A new anatomical character of generic interest is described and illustrated. The close relationship of the genera Chrysopogon von Röder, Codula Macquart, Chryseutria Hardy, and Opseostlengis White is confirmed, and the tribal status of the Chrysopogonini is discussed. Distribution of known species is limited to Australia, except for one species from Papua New Guinea. The mimicry of eumenid and pornpilid wasps by species of Chrysopogon and Codula is described. New species of Chrysopogon: agilis, albosetosus, aureocinctus, aureus, bellus, bicolor, brunnipes, castaneus, catachrysus, daptes, dialeucus, diaphanes, fuscus, harpaleus, leucodema, megalius, melanorrhinus, melas, micrus, papuensis, paramonovi, parvus, pellos, pilosifacies, proximus, rutilus, sphecodes, trianguliferus, xanthus. New species of Codula: conspecta, occidentalis. New species of Chryseutria: amphibola. New lectotypes: Chrysopogon fasciatus Ricardo, Chrysopogon muelleri von Röder, Chrysopogon queenslandi Ricardo, Chrysopogon splendidissirnus Ricardo, Codula limbipennis Macquart, Codula vespiformis Thomson. New synonyms: Chrysopogon punctatus Ricardo, 1912 = Chrysopogon luctuosus (Macquart, 1838). Chrysopogon nigricans White, 1914 = Chrysopogon rufulus White, 1914. Misidentification: Codula sumatrana Enderlein, 1914 is an asilid but is not a species of Codula nor of the Chrysopogonini.https://doi.org/10.1071/AJZS109
