Abstract

The Australian phasiine fauna is now contained in four tribes, the Trichopodini being incorporated within an enlarged tribe Phasiini. Keys are provided to tribes and genera, and to species of Cylindromyia Meigen (19) and Gerocyptera Townsend (five). Two new combinations are proposed: Gerocyptera divisa (Walker) for Trichoprosopa divisa Walker and G. fenestrata (Paramonov) for Cylindromyia fenestrata Paramonov. C. bigoti, nom. nov., is proposed as a replacement name for the preoccupied C. bicolor Bigot. Four new synonymies are proposed: Saralba bancrofti Paramonov = S. ocypteroides Walker; C. aterrima Paramonov = G. tristis Bigot; C. howeana Paramonov = G. fenestrata (Paramonov); and C. dayi Paramonov = C. tricolor Malloch. Six new species are described in Cylindromyia Meigen: ampla, aurigans, cuspidata, expansa, hamata and pilosa; the females of angustissimifrons Paramonov, brunnea Malloch and rieki Paramonov, and the male of tricolor Malloch, are described for the first time. The Australian species of Cylindromyia are divided into five species-groups except for three species which do not readily fit into these divisions. The genus Alophora Robineau-Desvoidy is discussed but not fully treated, and Euthera Loew has recently been revised by the present author.
