The Australian genus Brachyhesma (Apoidea : Colletidae) revised and reviewed

Abstract

The genus Brachyhesma Michener is reviewed. Forty-one species are recognized including 15 which are described as new: B. angularis, B. antennata, B. aurata, B. carnarvonensis, B. fernoralis, B. grossopedolis, B. isae, B. matarankae, B. nabarleki, B. newmanensis, B. paucivenata, B. scapata, B. storeyi, B. triangularis, B. ventralis. B. scapata has been made the type of a new subgenus, Brachyhesma (Anomalohesma). Keys, line drawings and scanning electron micrographs that enable the separation of species are presented.
