The Reptilian Relationships of Archaeopteryx

Abstract

This paper presents a review and a re-examination of hypotheses concerning the reptilian relationships of Archaeopteryx-commonly regarded as the earliest known bird. Seven hypotheses are examined; of these only one (the hypotheses that Archaeopteryx is related to theropod dinosaurs) is considered to be supported by a substantial body of positive and objective evidence.
