Tear carion concentration in some Australian waterfowl (Anatidae)

Abstract

Sodium and potassium concentrations were analysed in the plasma and tears of three species of Anatidae. While sodium was concentrated only slightly in tears, potassium tear: plasma ratios ranged from 4 : 1 to 15 : 1, indicating that tears serve as an excretory route for potassium in these species.
