Abstract

A stochastic model is given for populations of the quokka, S. bvachyuvus, at the West End of Rottnest I., W.A. A mathematical imitation of the quokka is defined, then required to "breed", using computer simulation, in order to produce a population observed as output from the computer. Results include a study of populations heading for extinction. It is shown that a new population starting with less than 100 animals may become extinct and that this situation may not be clear for 25 years or more.
