Abstract

The genera Panesthia Serville and Miopanesthia Saussure are treated here. I recognize 54 species (13 new) and nine subspecies (one new, five relegated to subspecific status) of Panesthia. There are eight species (one new and one new combination) of Miopanesthia. Descriptions, distribution, and keys are given for the known species of both genera. The genus Panesthia is the most widely distributed of the Panesthiinae occurring on the Asian mainland, as well as many Indonesian islands, and Australia. Panesthia angustipennis angustipennis (Illiger) is the most widely distributed subspecies, and its occurrence in the Seychelles is the most western record for any member of the Panesthiinae. The genus Miopanesthia occurs on the Asian mainland and some Indonesian islands, but is much less widely distributed than Panesthia. * Part II, Aust. J. Zool. Suppl. Ser., 1979, No. 69.
