Technical Note: A new trap trigger mechanism for the capture of swamp wallabies, Wallabia bicolor (Marsupialia : Macropodidae)

Abstract

Instead of having steel mesh walls, this trap uses strong shade-cloth to reduce the risk of injury to trapped wallabies and maintain them in a relatively comfortable environment. The trigger mechanism is released when a string is pulled as a result of weight being applied to the shade-cloth floor. This new trigger mechanism increases trapping efficiency. The trap may be left in an open, inactivated state to allow wallabies to become accustomed to its presence.
