Status and Conservation of the Forty-Spotted Pardalote, Pardalotus quadragintus

Abstract

A survey of the status of the forty-spotted pardalote, Pardalotus quadragintus, yielded an estimated total of 850 birds in eight known populations on peninsulas and islands along the coast of southeastern Tasmania. The sizes of these populations range from a few to 500 individuals. The largest populations are on offshore islands of approximately 10000 ha, or more, and the smallest consist of a loose collection of groups or isolated breeding pairs on coastal peninsulas. Threats to the survival of the populations are described and present or planned measures for their protection given.
