Abstract

Recovery data from 107 magpie geese that had been banded near Darwin, mostly 15-20 years earlier, are summarized. Some of the birds had dispersed throughout the subcoastal plains and to offshore islands, but there was a strong site attachment by individuals and 69% of them were recovered close to the banding place. There was evidence of considerable longevity; 11 birds were recovered more than 10 years after banding and two were recovered after almost 19 years.
