Influence of density on fecundity, growth rates, and mortality in the wild rabbit

Abstract

In the presence of excess food, rabbits confined in large enclosures with adequate living space continue to breed, even at population densities higher than those existing in nature (200 rabbits per ac). High density per se does not seriously affect growth rates of young, or body weights of adult rabbits. There appears to be no increase in mortality directly attributable to physiological upsets.
