Abstract
Land use in the poplar box lands ranges from extensive livestock production through dryland cropping and localized irrigated agriculture to forestry and mining. Land is used also by public utilities for water catchments, roads, rights-of-way, service facilities and by Defence for military training. National Parks and Nature Reserves occupy a small but significant proportion of the area and consequently recreation and the conservation of whole ecosystems as well as of individual plant and animal species must be added to the list of land uses in the area. Offroad vehicles also use small areas of land.https://doi.org/10.1071/RJ9790267
