Abstract
A study has been made of the rate of heat transport through a short pillar connecting two separated plates. Three separate approaches to the problem are discussed-analytic, numerical and experimental. The results of the different methods are in good agreement, and confirm the classical result for heat flow through a short, circular contact between semi-infinite bodies. These results are of particular relevance to the design of flat evacuated glazings incorporating short support pillars.https://doi.org/10.1071/PH910073
