Abstract

The usefulness of the pseudo- Lorentzian as an empirical lineshape function for fitting a wide variety of spectral data is pointed out. As examples, its approximation to the universally important Voigt profile, or Doppler integral, is documented and its application to fitting saturated absorption lines is indicated, with particular reference to saturated Mossbauer lineshapes.
