Vertical Velocities in the Solar Chromosphere

Abstract

A t A birefringent filter has been used to photograph the chromosphere at various wavelengths across the HI)( line. A process of photographic subtraction has then yielded photographs of velocity distributions. At all chromo spheric depths, there is a close correlation between the intensity of the granules in HI)( and the vertical velocity, the darker granules falling.
