Abstract

Some preliminary results are given of an investigation of solar daily variations recorded by vertically directed meson telescopes at Hobart, Tasmania (geomagnetic latitude (? = 73 °S.) and at Mawson, Antarctica (? = 73 °S.). Long-term trends in phase of the variation are found to be similar to those reported by observers in the northern hemisphere. However, a substantial and fairly consistent phase difference in local time is apparent between the two stations, and its origin is discussed. A brief discussion of pressure-correction procedures is also given.
