Abstract
The Kimberley isolate of the Grey Butcherbird Cracticus torquatus is morphologically distinguishable from the subspecies argenteus in the Northern Territory and is described as a new subspecies latens. Phylogenetic implications regarding the presence of a partly developed black breast in latens are discussed and it is concluded that C. mentalis is closer to C. torquatus than to C. nigrogularis.
