A survey of the birds of the Mt Wellington Range, Tasmania, during the non-breeding months

Abstract

A winter survey of the avifauna of the Mt Wellington Range, Tasmania, was carried out between 5 May 1977 and 2 October 1977 and compared with a previous survey conducted during the main breeding months. Several non-migratory species were observed to have markedly different distributions in the two seasons, including some which substantially increased their range of habitat in winter. Observations, which continued into spring, together with more observations during the following autumn, revealed how the species redistributed themselves during the transition between seasons.
