Abstract
In 1974 the Milparinka district and Cooper Creek basin received exceptionally high rainfall. Habitats of this region are described and lists of birds seen in each habitat in 1974 are given. Three sites in the Mil- parinka district, of contrasting topography and vegetation, were studied in detail. The site in a drainage channel had most species and individuals; that on the stony treeless downs, fewest. In the Milparinka district, of fifty-two species seventy-one per cent were present throughout the year, thirteen per cent only in hot months and thirteen per cent only in cold months. Most nests were started in October.
