On Bluefish (Pomatomus saltatrix L.) Spawning in the Black Sea

Abstract

Until quite recently there were no reliable data on bluefish spawning in the Black Sea. The present study showed that bluefish spawned throughout the Black Sea from June to mid September at temperatures from 20º to 26ºC and salinities from 17 to 20. Egg abundance did not exceed 12 eggs per m², and larvae were less numerous.
