A Description of a New Species of Galaxias (Pisces : Galaxiidae) from Tasmania

Abstract
A new species of galaxiid, Galaxias tanycephalus, is described from the Arthurs Lake region of Tasmania's Central Plateau. It is suggested that G. tanycephalus evolved from a G. truttaceus-like stock as a result of land-locking.
Morphometric and meristic variation in G. tanycephalus, G. auratus and G. truttaceus are given.
