Abstract
Samples taken approximately monthly over a 4 year period (1969-1973) from five salt lakes in western Victoria show that although total salt concentration varied widely in all lakes the ionic proportions of major cations and anions were remarkabIy constant. Thus, although physicochemical and biological variability characterize salt lakes, this variability does not necessarily include variation in ionic proportions.
