Abstract

During this investigation, 103 species of fish were taken in Lake Macquarie. Thirty-four are fishes of commerce, though only 12 are of local importance. There are no food records of 24 species; of the others, eight are herbivores, 13 omnivores, and 58 carnivores. In the last group are 27 microphagous and 31 macrophagous species. All hut six of the macrophagous species consume fish, mostly hardyheads and gobies. Relatively few commercial species of fish were found in fish stomachs. Twelve species of planktivorous fish are distinguished.
