A view of infection control in Canada, United States of America and the United Kingdom

Abstract

The opportunity to visit twelve hospitals widely spread throughout Canada, the USA and the UK in late 1993 and early 1994 gave me a broad perspective on Infection Control in these countries. Working as I did in a 126 bed private hospital, I organised visits to a range of healthcare establishments to observe current practices in the surveillance and prevention of hospital acquired infections. Particular attention was given to methods and equipment used to promote a needle-safe and/or a needle free environment.
