An Investigation of the Importance of Transpiration Gradients in the Control of Phototropic Curvature in Coleoptiles of Avena sativa

Abstract

The coleoptiles of Avena sativa bend towards blue light whether they are submerged or in air. The pattern of differential growth causing curvature is similar in both cases. These measurements support previous observations and argue against a role for transpiration in phototropism.
