Modelling ironstone depths using magnetic dipoles

Abstract
A method of searching aeromagnetic data for dipole-like bodies rediscovers most of the known ironstone-hosted gold mines on Tennant Creek, as well as many other dipole-like bodies, apparently ironstones. Surface ironstones and waste dumps mask the signal of an ironstone below, however many ironstones are detected at depths ranging down to 200 m, with a few detected as deep as 380 m. A basalt flow is detected at 350 m. Many of the abandoned mines are identified here. Explorers on Tennant Creek are invited to peruse the results to see if the filtered output of the method has detected ironstones which are known only to them.https://doi.org/10.1071/ASEG2010ab316
