Abstract
The foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta Canada contain several producing gas fields which are located in traps formed by the intense thrust faulting which characterizes this zone. The gas is found in Mississipian (Lower Carboniferous) rocks and the depth of the reservoirs lies in the range 3 to 6 km, with the depth being greater as the front of the Rocky Mountains is approached. The outcropping rocks of the area are Cretaceous sandstones and shales of marine and continental origin.https://doi.org/10.1071/EG987031
